Little Blue Bulletin: 11/13-11/15
Dear Parents,
Little Blue had another great week! Two wonderful plays, painting and making "Eric Carle" turkeys, as well as listening to stories about Thanksgiving are the activities that filled our days. Please ask your child about "Turk and Runt" and the Adelie Village's play "Character Matters". We have learned a lot!
Don't forget: No school Wednesday-Friday, Happy Thanksgiving!
We will be sending home a note to all of you that have volunteered to help in our play. For those of you who are new to the school, each village here at Portal puts on a performance. Little Blue will be presenting "Anansi and the Strange Moss Covered Rock" in late January. We will need all of the parent help we can get, so look for a special note about having a parent meeting to get the ball rolling. Thanks in advance.
Check attached calendar for upcoming dates. Read again. We added some more dates!
Barnes and Noble night - K/1 afternoon at the movies -
Sharing:
Week of 11/19: No sharing-short week
Week of 11/26: A special memory
Week of 12/3: Something from another country
NOTE: We are no longer introducing ourselves, but working on an interesting topic sentence.
Preparation Tips:
1. Start with your topic sentence to tell your audience what you're going to share about..
2. Add 2 or 3 sentences to describe your topic. Use transition words such as first, next, last.
3. Stand up straight, look at your audience, and speak clearly.
Something extra: Bring a picture or the object with you to show your audience!
Book Bags:
Due to the upcoming holidays, there is no homework next week. We will send home a packet on Monday, November 26th. Bookbags will resume on Friday, November 30th. If your looking for extra activities, then.... read a book, try out a recipe with your child, go to a museum, or take a trip to your neighborhood library.
Language Arts:
Spelling will resume on Monday, November 26th.
We worked reviewing all of the sounds we have learned so far this year. Keep reinforcing this at home.
Teammate of the Week:
We continued our expository writing program this week. Each student in our village will have a chance to be "Teammate of the Week". This is a great opportunity for students to share information about themselves with their family rooms. As students learn about the Teammate of the Week, they will be writing an expository paragraph using Step Up to Writing Program. We will be keeping the writing at school to create a book for each child. Not only is this a wonderful memory of our classmates, but a great writing portfolio too.
Math:
This week we finished our Time and Calendar skills classes. This is an important and useful strand that is easy to bring up in everyday conversation. Talk with your child about weekly and daily routines to reinforce the concepts. Many of our kids still don't know what time they get up or go to bed. You can help reinforcing by talking about the following things at home:
morning, afternoon, evening
yesterday, today, tomorrow
breakfast, lunch, dinner
days of the week
months of the year
seasons
hour, minute, second
digital and analog clocks
elapsed time (How much time between lunch and dinner?)
Social Studies:
Megaskill: PROBLEM SOLVING: #1- Talk it out! #2: Brainstorm-listen to the other guy. #3: Make a plan! Work it out.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday next week. There will be no Little Blue News next week due to the holiday.
